Hollis, N.Y. (BGM NEWS):– Keeping with tradition and the spirit of the holiday season, State Senator Leroy Comrie today distributed Turkeys to several needy families in the Senate’s 14th District ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The giveaway took place at the St. Matthews A.M.E. Church on Hollis Avenue and marks third consecutive year Senator Comrie has hosted a turkey giveaway since being elected to the State Senate.
Addressing recipients at the ceremony, Comrie described Thanksgiving as “a time when we should all feel cared for.” He noted, however, that “many are left without the means or support that they need. I hope that the individuals and families receiving turkeys today, will feel a measure of kindness and compassion that they can carry into the holiday season and the new year,” he said.
Individuals, families and community organizations received more than 120 frozen turkeys, which were donated by ATU Local 1056, Bartlett Dairy, Decosta Headly, Jetro Cash and Carry, the Law Offices of Jose A. Polanco, Municipal Credit Union, MVP Pediatrics, National Supermarket Association, Resorts World Casino, Ridgewood Savings Bank, Royal Waste Services and Stop and Shop.
