Acknowledging that “the window of opportunity to mount a credible campaign had passed,” Vice President Joe Biden announced Wednesday, (Oct.21) that he would not enter the race for the Democratic Party’s nomination for president.

Biden made the announcement in the Rose Garden at the White House flanked by president Obama and wife Dr. Gill Biden. His announcement ended weeks of speculation that he would enter the race. For more than a month, several influential democrats and supporters had urged the Vice President to enter the race. The death of his son Beau Biden earlier this year is believed to have impacted his consideration in making a decision earlier. He did say, during his announcement, that his family was ready and that he was ready for a run. Biden also warned that his decision not to run,”does not mean that I will be silenced in speaking about the issues I believe in.”
