KINGSTON, JAMAICA Sunday, August 28, 2016 :-
A massive Power failure left this Caribbean Island of 2. 8 million people in darkness for several hours yesterday evening and into last night. It marked the second time in 4 months the Island experienced a total failure of its electricity supply.
Preliminary reports from the Jamaica Public Service Company – the sole distributor of power on the Island — indicate that the incident was caused by what it describes as a “procedural error, that caused a number of our generating units to go off line simultaneously.”
A furious energy minister Dr. Andrew Wheatley said the incident was “unacceptable.” He demanded that the Company provides the Jamaican government with a full report on the incident by this Thursday.
