NON PROFIT MAKES SCHOLARSHIPS ; COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

Four High School Students from Queens, Long Island and Mount Vernon who are headed to college this fall have been awarded  scholarships by a non – profit body, The Ex- Correctional Officers Association Of Jamaica Inc.

The awards were made at the group’s annual Fundraising and Awards Banquet in Queens Village recently. It also made its Inaugural community development award to Caribbean Food Delights, the family owned business headed by Jamaican businessman and Philanthropist Vincent Ho Sang.

The company which is headquartered on Long Island, is credited with spearheading several community projects within the Jamaican Diaspora and the Island of Jamaica. The 4 students awarded scholarships are Shadae Leslie of Mount Vernon, Peter McKenzie of Long Island, and Philesha Teape,and Destinee Titus  both of two Queens based schools.Ronnie Hmmick who is president of the non – profit body told guests at the Banquet that the scholarships were worth $4,000.00 and have been awarded as “part of a program to assist needy students.”
