He spoke about the resurgence of the economy which has seen 70 straight months of Job growth, a reduction in the un-employment rate and an increase in the number of Americans now covered by health Insurance,”because of the Affordable care Act.”
The president also acknowledged that “there is much more to be done, in areas such as Immigration reform and income inequality.” He also expressed “disappointment” that he has not been able to fulfill a campaign pledge “to unite the country.”
South Carolina governor Nikki Haley who was given the task to deliver the Republican response angered some within her party, as she used the occasion to urged the party to avoid divisiveness.
Seen in some circles as a possible Vive presidential candidate,Haley was harshly criticized for her handling of the response . She said in a Television interview however, that officials within the GOP had seen the speech before she delivered it.
