Houston TX. (BGM NEWS) – Beto O’Rouke, the former Texas congressman, officially kicked off his run for the White House with one of three rallies across his home state here on Saturday.
Before a large and enthusiastic crowd, O’Rouke sought to draw sharp contrasts between himself and president Trump on several issues without once mentioning the president by name.
Immigration and the need to fix the problem emerged as a recurring theme of O’Ruke who narrowly lost the senate race against Republican Ted Curz in the midterm elections last November.
Saturday’s official announcement of his campaign follows 2 weeks of visits to a number of crucial early voting states in the Democratic primaries next year. O’Ruke who has raised more funds — over $6 million — than any other candidate in the race, is in third place behind former vice president Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders according to the latest polls.
Biden who is yet to announce he is running, found himself in controversy Sunday after a woman for whom he campaigned in 2014 accused the former vice president of smelling her hair and kissing the back of her head during a campaign event. O’Rouke is slated to visit a string of other states including New York in the coming days.
